My First (Imaginary) Summer Job

Today in class I asked my students what their ideal summer job would be. The legal working age in China is 18 (unless my students lied to me), so only two of the kids in class could have had work experience (which they did, f.y.i). I thought it would be interesting to see what the constant studiers felt they’d like to get up to.

Nate declared that working at McDonalds would be the best job because he could “eat delicious food for free.” Huh. Another girl who’d said she’d like to work in a restaurant also concurred that McDonalds would be best, but only because it’s close to her home. A lot of kids sensibly thought tutoring would be a good summer job and many wanted to work in restaurants. When I asked what they thought Americans did for their summer jobs, babysitting was the first reply and it only got as weird as “car repair.”
